National Day of Peace Celebration

WomenAct and CEDPA participated in the celebration of the National Day of Peace on 25 November 2009 (5 Mangsir 2066) led by AIN (Association of INGOs Nepal) to mark the third year of the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Accord between the then government and the Communist Party of Nepal.

The highlight of the program was the unfurling of the Peace Quilt from atop Dharahara Tower Sundhara by the Minister of Peace and Reconstruction Rakam Chemjong.

The two quilts contained messages of peace from more than 60 districts including one prepared by WomenAct members during the Strategic Planning Retreat held on November 15-16, 2009. WomenAct and its members had also help collect names of organizations and individuals interested in preparing individuals quilts with messages of peace from their respective districts at the same event last year.

 The event ended with the lighting of lamps around the Peace Mandala prepared by Yatra, a youth-led organization.
